AI Digest

Daily AI briefings

The AI news that matters to people who run technology in higher education — product launches, enterprise developments, and campus policy shifts, each with key takeaways and source links.

How each edition is built

No feed reprints, no aggregator dumps. Every edition is assembled by an AI agent I built and operate, running the same pipeline every morning — with hard rules that keep it honest.

Step 1 · Sources

Each morning the pipeline scans roughly fifteen standing sources: AI labs and research groups (OpenAI, Google DeepMind, Hugging Face, AI2, arXiv), higher-education press (Inside Higher Ed, Higher Ed Dive, Campus Technology, EdTech Magazine, eCampus News, University Business, WCET), and targeted web searches for state and federal AI policy affecting universities.

Step 2 · Selection rules

The agent may only include articles published within the last seven days, carrying their original headline and a working source link. Anything already covered in a recent edition is rejected outright, as are marketing pages, product homepages, and paywalled links. If fewer than five stories clear the bar, the edition ships smaller rather than padded.

Step 3 · The higher-ed lens

Each selected story gets key takeaways written through an institutional lens: what it means for people who run technology at a college or university, with the sector-wide implication stated first and campus-specific notes kept to genuinely campus stories. The writing is done by models running on the UC San Diego TritonAI on-premises platform — Z.ai GLM 5.3 as the primary reasoning model, with open-weight fallbacks (DeepSeek V4 Flash, Gemma 4) standing behind it.

Step 4 · Publishing

The finished edition lands on this page automatically around 6:35 AM Pacific. Email subscribers get it the same morning through a direct Buttondown API integration: the edition is rendered as a styled HTML email — source link, linked headline, bulleted takeaways, and a read-the-full-story button per article — and queued for delivery the moment the web edition publishes, so the two never drift. The agent behind it is the same platform that powers the rest of this site's automation.
