What's New in Your AI Tools
Google Gemini & Workspace
- Find your learning tools all in one place with the student hub in Gemini — Announced October 1: the Gemini student hub is now available to Google Workspace for Education users of all ages. It gives students one starting point for Gemini's learning tools, including study notebooks, flashcards, and practice quizzes. Admins: the hub rides along with the existing Gemini App and Notebook controls in the Admin console, so your current settings decide who sees it.
- Simple setup option for Workspace Client-side encryption — Announced October 1: Client-side encryption now has a simplified setup path in the Admin console. Google combines Cloud HSM keys with Google Identity to automate most of the setup flow, cutting deployment from a project to minutes while keeping encryption keys in your control. Availability is Enterprise Plus with the Assured Controls or Assured Controls Plus add-on. If your unit handles HIPAA- or export-controlled-adjacent data and has been deferring CSE because of the setup burden, this changes the math.
- Built-in interoperability between Google Meet and Microsoft Teams on Android devices, now generally available — Announced October 1, full rollout starting that day: Meet hardware can join Microsoft Teams meetings, and Teams Rooms devices can join Meet meetings. Full rollout reaches all Google Workspace customers with Android-based Meet hardware over one to three days. Useful if your shared rooms still split between the two platforms.
